[ Mabel is by one of the vending machines, trying to recapture the fun with another condom balloon animal, but her heart's just not in it. Before she can even finish blowing it up and tying it off, she heaves a huge sigh and lets the condom balloon fly out of her hands, farting through the air as it empties out. ]

[he's first alerted to her presence when he hears the sound of the condom balloon zooming through the air, but he takes more notice of how discontented she seems, walking over to speak up.]

Hey... What's the matter?

[ she barely looks up at Rupert's presence, and then hides her face with a sleeve, stifling a sniffle. she can't let the cute boy see her crying like this!!! ]

[ Mabel is here, sitting on a bench in the dorm quads outside, curled up inside of her sweater.

[he's not exactly happy tonight either, but she's young enough that he naturally wants to cheer her up instead of expressing that. in the current circumstances, though... he gives a little sigh as he sits next to her. gently:]

Mabel peers up from her sweater just the tiniest bit to see who it is and then hunkers back inside it. ]

Well, I'd kind of like to make sure she's going to be alright, or see if she wanted to talk about what happened. It was a pretty hard day for everyone, after all.

[ She spots him walking around campus between classes and runs to catch up with him, barreling into his side. She intends to ask what he's up to, where he's going, etc etc, but instead, when she opens her mouth to talk, she just

[ she lets go but immediately starts laughing nervously ]

H-hi, Rupert!

[glancing down at his arm with a wince]

Jeez, you really didn't hold back, huh...

[ After the trial ends, Mabel peeks in through the doorway of wherever Rupert's being kept for a few moments, eyes watery, before she stands in the doorway more fully.

And then, after another moment, she comes flying towards him for a hug, crying. ]

[—oh. he does wince, given all the bruises, but he returns the hug after a second.]

...Hey, kid.

Rupert!! You're not--it isn't--[ sniffle ] I don't want you to get expelled!

[he - wants to be able to tell her that it's going to be alright, but. he'll settle for holding on just a little tighter, hoping it's comforting.]
