I don't know the specifics, but... I can at least tell you that it wasn't a matter of trust, Mabel. There were a lot of stupid rules. They couldn't tell you because they weren't able to, not because they didn't want to.
He and Yamato are close. They're from the same world, so it makes sense that he'd want to share Yamato's burden. But that means he had to watch Yamato and the others struggle to save us the entire time, and he couldn't even help.
